In The Valley

We must never take our blessings for granted; however, we know that when our lives seem so hopeless and devoid of meaning because of circumstances the Lord comes to our rescue and gives us revived hope and meaning. Read the following by Sister Neetcie Wilson Buell from Livomia, Michigan but originally from Kentucky and you will see this demonstrated in a great manifest way:

……… Oh, Master Meet Me in the Valley ……….
I was thinking again of my beloved cousin, Pauline Wilder. Tragedy struck her life when she lost her only child, her daughter, Carlene, to a sudden illness, only to be followed by the death of her husband, Clifford, just a few months later.

I went to visit her, knowing that she was just crushed with great sorrow by the loss of the two people on earth that was the most precious to her and was suffering through adjusting to a great change in her life. She greeted me with a warm embrace and a soft loving smile. I asked how she was doing. She answered that she was doing fairly well. She was trying to stay active and busy. She attended church regularly and visited with her brother and his family as often as she could.

But….she said … things were not always this peaceful with her. After the death of Carlene and her beloved husband Clifford, she said, sorrow settled down on her so very heavy that she thought she could not live. She felt to be lost in a big strange world. The little house that she lived in seemed to become so big as she found herself alone, in deep grief and frightened by everything around her and alarmed by the thought of a future all by herself.

One evening she said her grief became very heavy and her condition so hopeless that she felt she could not live any longer in this shape. She cried out to God in prayer, saying, “Help me, Lord!” With great sobs of weeping she left her living room and started down the hallway to her bedroom to cast herself down on her bed in her overwhelming sorrow.

But, as she walked overcome with her grief, she said, “Jesus met me in the hallway!” Tears streamed down her cheek and she proclaimed with strength and peace, “I have been alright ever since, because now I know that I am not alone. Jesus is with me! I am doing fine!”

It was so beautiful to see the light upon her face as she said, “Jesus met me in the hallway.” Oh, my, what a great difference the sweet Presence of Jesus makes in our life! Jesus meets us right where we are at! There are times when our heart-ache is so great that well-meaning friends, family and neighbors just can’t lift the heavy burden from our souls. Even with warm arms around us, our soul still cries out, “Help me, Lord!” With the Lord by our side, we can make it through our times of hardship, sorrows and trials.

My soul today, in my own struggles cries out, “Oh, Master Meet me in the valley,… Raise me above these thorns of pain…. For all is well, if Thou art with me. … In the midst of trials, I can praise Your Name.”
