We celebrate our Independence this July 4th under the flag of the United States of the red, white and blue. Freedom is a wonderful blessing but it came at great cost of life as the war and wars were fought to obtain and maintain this freedom. It seems that the freedom enjoyed by citizens of the red, white and blue are being slowly taken away but it could be worse. It is still the best country in the world to live in and for the moment at least, we can openly worship the Lord of glory.
There is freedom for those who are citizens of that Heavenly Country that has been obtained by the Redeemer, Jesus Christ. We were all bound under the curse of the law and its ultimate penalty of death and banishment from God. Jesus Christ came and shed His precious blood (red blood) to redeem us from the curse of the law and set us as chosen citizens free because He paid the penalty that we citizens could not pay.
Through this red blood shed at Calvary, we, as citizens of the Heavenly Country, have had our black sins washed away, thus the blackness of sin has been transformed into the purity of white. Isaiah said, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isa. 1:18). The red blood washed His people from their red and black sins into the purity of white fine linen which is the righteousness of the saints.
When red and blue are combined and mixed together, they form purple which was one of the colors of the fine twined linen of the veil before the entrance into the holy of holies where the high priest entered to offer the sacrifice for sin. Jesus had a purple robe put on him by those that hated Him but when He gave up the ghost on Calvary and said “It is finished” and “Into thy hand I commend my spirit”, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. NO more animal sacrifices was needed because the supreme sacrifice had been made. Eternal freedom was won comprising the red, white and blue. These are also colors of the rainbow which show that God is a covenant keeping God and His promises never fail. “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” (Titus 1:2)
