Happy Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, May 13, and we want to wish every mother of our church, community, and fellow Christians, a happy Mother’s Day filled with the blessings of the Lord. The joy of a mother holding the fruit of her womb in her arms after birth is a moment that will always live in her memory. The Lord opened up the womb of several women in the Bible to have this glorious experience, and then to train them up in the ways of the Lord. The Psalmist said, “He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.” (Psalm 113:9). Mothers have wiped many tears from the eyes of their children and prayed for them when they did not realize it. She comforted them many times and never has stopped praying for them, even when they are grown.  As the scriptures says, she is a joyful mother of children. Just as the mother comforts her children, so does the Lord comfort His church. Isaiah tells us, “As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” (Isa. 66:13). A true mother will not forsake the fruit of her womb., but a woman who just bore a child might forsake her child. Isaiah again tells us of this scenario but then contrasts it with the continual care of the Heavenly Father. “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.” (Isa. 49:15). Solomon said the price of a virtuous woman was far above rubies, and the heart of her children trust in her and call her blessed. This is the mother that will not forsake her child. Thank the Lord for all our mothers. Many have gone on to be with the Lord, but their memories are still etched in the mind and lives of those who survived them. Surely as the song “Precious Memories” declares, these memories ever flood our soul as old home scenes of our childhood and beyond are recalled and treasured.–May 10, 2012–Elder Larry Wise
