Seeds You Sow

We all should be careful that we are sowing the right seeds because for every seed sown there will be a time to reap. The sowing and reaping for the child of God is in this life on earth. Paul said, “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” (Gal. 6:8). The born again child of God still has a fleshly nature that he must contend with, and he or she must not sow to the flesh because it will profit them nothing; it reaps corruption. We are not sinless so we will make fleshly mistakes but we certainly should not willfully sow to the flesh. The spiritual seeds that we sow bring a harvest that is reaped with joy and blessings. Unlike natural seeds that are sown and sometimes fail to come up, all the fleshly or spiritual seeds we sow will come up and produce fruit, either good or bad. The prophet Hosea tells us, “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” (Hos. 10:12). We haven’t had enough rain lately and drought conditions prevail in some areas. May we not have a spiritual drought by sowing the right kinds of seed and reap a rain of righteousness from our blessed Lord.–August 17, 2011–Elder Larry Wise
