Ordination–David Wise

May Meeting and Other 022Bethany was blessed with a good ordination service for Brother David Wise on Saturday afternoon, May 16, 2015. After an introductory song and prayer by Elder Grady Camp, the ordination began with Elders and deacons sitting together to form a presbytery to officiate the work of ordination. The moderator (the Pastor) stated the spokesman for the church was Brother Phillip Wise. The presbytery selected Elder Larry Wise as moderator of the proceedings. Elder Wise proceeded to ask if the presbytery desired to question Bro. David, noting that Bro. David desired Elder Josh Winslett to do the questioning. Presbytery honored request and Elder Winslett did the questioning. The presbytery selected Elder Jonathan Wise to serve as clerk and record all proceedings in minutes. Presbytery selected Elder Larry Wise to deliver the ministerial charge and Elder Jerry Wise to pray the ordination prayer.

May Meeting and Other 021Brother David was called forward to sit in front and Elder Winslett questioned him on the fundamentals of the doctrines of the Bible such as the Trinity, Unconditional Election, the gospel’s purpose, ordinances of the church, eternal and time salvation, preservation of saints etc. Bro. David promised to abide by the principles and truths to which he was ordained or he would lose his credentials. Presbytery being satisfied with answers given, Elders and deacons gathered around Bro. David and laid hands on him while Elder Jerry Wise prayed fervent ordination prayer.

May Meeting and Other 025Elder Larry Wise then delivered the charge as to the purpose and responsibilities of the office of Elder. He was reminded and admonished that he was a servant and called of God but not a Lord over God’s heritage. He was to be faithful and hold steadfastly the faith once delivered to the saints. He as a minister is “apt to teach” and should teach some lesson in all sermons. To be a good minister, he must put brethren in remembrance of the truths of God. He is not to despise his youth but be an example to believers in word, conversation, faith, charity and purity. He is to not neglect his gift but to cultivate it and meditate on the things of God to benefit others. He is to take heed unto himself and the doctrine. He is to feed the flock of God and not for filthy lucre. He is to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness above things of the world. He is to commit the things he has learned to faithful men who will in turn teach others and not be entangled with the affairs of this life. and endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. He is to diligently study the word of God rightly divide it before preaching it to the people. Even though evil men will wax worse and worse, he is to “continue” in the things he has learned. He is to preach the word and be instant in season and out. May he be able to say at the end of his life and ministry, as did the apostle Paul, that he has fought a good fight and has kept the faith.

The moderator asked if the church was satisfied with the work of the presbytery and the spokesman responded in the affirmative. Moderator asked for motion to read the minutes and the minutes were read by the clerk, Elder Jonathan Wise, and then approved. Moderator asked for motion to absolve the presbytery and turn Bro. David back over to the church as a duly ordained Elder in the Primitive Baptist Church. Motion approved and Elder David Wise was given the right hand of fellowship by the presbytery and every one in the congregation.

Elders in Ordination May Meeting and Other 027There were 19 Elders and deacons sitting in the presbytery; ten of which were Elders.
