BROTHER MOZINGO’S LESSON
The following is from a sermon I heard Elder Lonnie Mozingo, Sr preach several years ago…
“Now you precious sisters, I know you have your grandmother’s fine china displayed in your china closet and oh, it’s so pretty and you wouldn’t ever think to get that china out and use it. But you’re going to roll over and die someday and your husband is going to marry the first bunny that hops along and do you know what she’s going to do? She’s going to get that china out and use it. So, before that happens, get it out and use it. And you brethren, I know you have your grandfather’s old pocket watch in your chest of drawers and you’re so very proud of it and you wouldn’t ever think to get that watch out and use it. But you’re going to kick the bucket someday and your wife is going to marry some chowderhead and do you know what he’s going to do? He’s going to get that pocket watch out and use it. So, before that happens, get it out and use it. And now to all you precious people out there in the congregation, you’ve got the gospel, now get it out and use it; and you have your Bible gathering dust on the coffee table, now get it out and use it; and you have your prayer closet tucked away somewhere, now get it out and use it.”
I loved Brother Mozingo dearly and have never forgotten this lesson. Whatever things the Lord has blessed us to enjoy, let’s get it out and use it for that is the abundant life and that is when we are the most happy. Let us not die with more regret…make that phone call to that aged parent, go to that meeting up the road, talk to your kids, be restored to whomever you have a grudge against, keep your grandchildren for a day and make happy memories for them to enjoy. We have to ability so let’s do what Brother Lonnie taught us: Get it out and use it.–Elder David Montgomery
