I’m sure we have all looked into the clouds and saw various shapes that looked like people, animals or something else. When you see something like this resemblance of a horse in a cloud, it reminds us how majestic the Lord is. Truly “the heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth forth His handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1). The prophet Nahum tells us something about how the Lord works and who will ultimately have His way. “…the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.” (Nah. 1:3).  Jesus came riding into Jerusalem on the colt, the foal of an ass, and the prophet Zechariah informs us that he came as the just One and having salvation. (Zech. 9:9). When Jesus finished His work upon earth and the eternal salvation of His people was complete, He ascended into heaven in a cloud. The physician Luke tells us as the disciples witnessed Him ascend up into heaven, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1:11). Jesus ascended in a cloud and He will return from heaven in a cloud. “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him,” (Rev. 1:7). He is coming back with a shout and the voice of the archangel so He must have went up with a shout as well. Psalms 47:5 foretells this ascension with a shout, “ God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.” (Psalms 47:5). May we have our eyes to the sky as we look for the portrayal of things in the clouds because one day the Lord is coming in a cloud and every eye shall see Him. It is cloudy on one part of the earth and maybe sunny on another part, but the Lord can make it cloudy at once all over the world. Jesus rides as the victorious Savior over death, hell and the grave, and we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us and gave Himself for us.–July 17, 2012–Elder Larry Wise
