Election Reprieve

The Presidential Election is over and we have a new President who is scheduled to take office on January 20, 2017. I agree with a statement by Tim Wildmon of the American Family Association that the United States has been given a reprieve, but it could also be viewed as a stay of execution. This nation has been steadily going farther and farther away from what God would have a nation to be or what our founders intended. Abortion continues to be practiced on a daily basis and millions of unborn babies are murdered in the womb. Homosexuality and lesbian conduct is sanctioned by the law and society under the name of diversity when the Bible condemns both. Even some of the religious world have compromised and admitted such individuals into their congregation and even ordained them to the ministry. Christians are viewed as terrorist and the real terrorist are given a pass. This pretty well sums up the party that wielded the power in the oval office the past eight years. Now a new sheriff us in town. Will he advance or maintain some sense of right for the citizenry or will he also compromise and succumb to those liberals who would continue the course of the past? Only God knows but much prayer needs to be lifted heavenward for Donald Trump and other leaders in charge that wisdom and honor would prevail in decision making because the liberal opposition and main stream opponents will be out in force.

We the people were drifting slowly but surely into complete serfdom to the government and its regulations and we have been given a reprieve or stay of execution as God seemed to be ready to drop the final judgment gavel upon the nation. It is evident to me that the Lord has intervened and moved the hearts and minds of millions of people to repudiate the policies of past years or otherwise we would be looking forward or rather lamenting at least four more years of continued government oppression. There were thousand or rather millions of God loving people across the nation that have been earnestly praying for this country over the course of the last months and I believe God has answered in a positive way. Solomon tells us, ” The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” (Prov. 21:1). Millions of people who didn’t really like Donald Trump voted for him anyway, even in places where his party had not triumphed in a couple of decades; this was instrumental in deciding who the next President would be. Who can explain such a phenomenon? The so called “smart people” said there was no way under the sun that Donald Trump could be elected President and he could not have been without divine intervention.

God answered the prophet Habakkuk concerning his complaint of the actions of the wicked when it seemed the Lord wasn’t doing anything. The Lord told him to speak to Israel that they were slack in enforcing the law and wrong judgment had proceeded  God was getting ready to judge them and would providentially use another nation to do that. “For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.” (Hab. 1:6). There is no man or nation that can get so haughty but what God can bring them down. Scripture says that, “But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.” (Psalm 75:7). God can and does allow men in power even as He did to Pharaoh that He might show His power in him and that His name might be declared throughout all the earth. (Rom. 9:17). However, God will not suffer His people to be tempted above that which they are able to bear but is faithful to make a way of escape to bear the temptation (trial). (I Cor. 10:13). God can remove whosoever He pleases from any position of authority. Daniel tells us, “And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:” (Dan. 2:21)

Of course some might say that God has rasied up Trump to be an instrument of judgment and that could be a possibility but weighing all the variables and the many odds that Trump faced in finally winning, it seems that God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the wsie. This President is certainly not “politically correct” which is the buzz word in today’s climate and it seems evident that people are tired of some of that. I am not a fan of Trump but God works in mysterious ways and we were on the verge of going over the cliff into the abyss into a Godless environment; now there is at least a temporary roadblock and lets pray that it will be a permanent roadblock. As with any leader, there are going to be things they do that we will not like, but so far he has many respected religious leaders advising him and praying for him and that indicates at least a modicum of leaning toward the right way. Continue to pray for a humble heart and heavenly wisdom that the man himself may not even know he possesses for the benefit of the righteous.

Prayer is a most powerful weapon in the arsenal of the people of God against Satan’s devices. It is the last weapon of armor mentioned in putting on the whole armor of God in Ephesians chapter 6. Many thousands or millions have been in prayer about this election for some time and it seems that the impossible has been done but remember that nothing is impossible with God if it be His will. We have been given a reprieve or stay of execution of final judgment. May we take advantage of this new opportunity to right the ship and get back to fundamentals of putting God first. Thank the Lord for His wondrous works toward the children of men.–November 10, 2016–Elder Larry Wise
